Description
Our leading chemical client in San Diego, CA is seeking a Fermentation Lab Tech for their growing location in San Diego, CA. This position has the primary responsibility of supporting the Development of Dispersions Functional Polymers for the Adhesive, Construction and Architectural Coatings (ACP) Industries

Position Level of required experience 3 - 5 years

- Must be flexible and capable of adapting to priority changes on a daily basis.

Position is working in a prototype lab. Duties include, but are not limited to, mixing chemicals, developing suspensions, testing samples, process documentation.
This position will support fermentation/recovery operations.
• Read standard operating procedures
• Prepare various types of media and buffers: add chemicals, adjust to correct volume according to procedures.
• Sterilize medium/solutions using autoclave.
• Prepare fermenters /recovery equipment for glass wash.
• Calibrate probes according to standard operating procedures.
• Set up fermenters/recovery equipment - connect external feed bottles, measure and adjust pH, add necessary ingredients according to recipes.
• Ensure identified problems are communicated to other scientists
• Ensure laboratory and equipment is kept clean.
• Assist in checking chemical/supply inventory and notifying when items are needed.
• Inform other scientists of maintenance issues and submit facilities requests for needed repairs.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma is required with 6 years of practical laboratory experience
EDUCATION
- 4 year degree in Chemistry or Chemical engineering or Materials engineering with at least 3 years of experience or
- 2 year degree (AS) in Chemistry, or Engineering with at least 5 years of experience
AA Degree in life sciences or junior/senior level standing in pursuit of BS Degree, experience working in a laboratory setting.


SKILLS:
- Minimum work experience
- 3 years of laboratory focused experience
- Experience in laboratory activity - performance experiments, familiarity with pH measurement, basic chemical mixing, basic chemical conversion and mass balance calculation is required
- Experience in vendor management - ordering materials, cataloging materials is a plus
- Experience in technical documentation desired
- Basic knowledge of chemical instrumentation required
- Basic knowledge of chemical compatibility required
- Basic knowledge of chemical handling and chemical storage required
- College level (Junior level) understanding of chemistry, physics and engineering required
- Detailed oriented and with high sensitivity to timeline is a must
- Proactive in task management and ability to address/take care of basic laboratory facilitation
- Experience in laboratory hygienes and chemical preparation and mixing hygienes

Right now this is a Part-time position. 20 hours minimum. May work up to 40hr/wk on some occasions if candidate is available and there is a business need
